Sizing Your Steps Stage steps are not included, which lets you match the step count to the exact height you plan to build. As a general rule, figure roughly 8" per step. Divide your finished stage height by 8 to get the number you need. A 32" stage height works out to a 4 step unit. Common configurations include 4 step, 5 step, and 7 step units. Guardrails and stage skirts are also available separately to finish the installation.
